meet Robert L. Pettit

Bob Pettit is a retired attorney.  He practiced for 35 years in the District of Columbia – primarily in private practice with Wiley, Rein (formerly Wiley, Rein & Fielding) but also served in the federal government as General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission and as Associate Deputy Secretary of Transportation.  He served as President of the Federal Communications Bar Association, the largest voluntary bar association in Washington and as a founding trustee of the association’s charitable arm, the FCBA Foundation.  He was peer-reviewed rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards and was listed in Washington “Super Lawyers”.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Missouri, where he studied at the Missouri Journalism School and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Duke University Law School.

He and his wife retired to their farm just north of Unison in western Loudoun County in 2012.

He has been active in a variety of charitable organizations.  He is currently Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Episcopal Investment Funds, which manages the investment of endowment, reserve and other funds for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and more than 150 parish churches and organizations in Virginia.  He has served in a variety of leadership capacities with St. Alban’s Church in Washington, DC, Emmanuel Church in Middleburg, VA, and St. James’ Church in Leesburg, VA.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Washington Chamber Symphony, the resident chamber orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts from 1987-2002.  More recently, he served on the Board of Directors (and as treasurer) of the Waterford Concert Series.
